On the 15th May 2023 the Development Centre will no longer represent Oldham Athletic after a production line of 46 players with 6 players still on extended trials at Academy Football currently to this day and we will be moving to a new professional club.
When I was in first discussions with Oldham Athletic in 2020 about a development centre programme, it was clear the club would benefit from such a programme but could not afford to invest in it. Therefore I took the decision to personally invest in the centre, the club requested I owned the Development Centre privately and it was ran as a separate company with a contract in place for all parties. After discussions with Oldham Athletic this season the decision was made that the contract will not be extended at the end of its current 3 year agreement.
It has been positive that following the confirmation, a good number of clubs have approached either myself or other parties to express their interest in the DC for the 2023/24 onwards seasons and I hope to provide information soon on what this will be. The 8s to 16s programme and Under 19s SYT based at Avro FC will continue and announcements will be made in due course.
I have personally loved my time with Oldham Athletic Football Club and my 3 seasons at the football club, developing players for the Academy in what is widely accepted to be one of the most succesful development centre programmes in the UK.
I look forward to sharing what will be the next phase of our journey and the improvements in our programme that will come as part of our changes.
